THE ASSIGNMENT: Share your REVISED research question as a comment below. Make sure to include your name. ALL Anonymous posts will be deleted and will not receive credit for this assignment.
In addition to posting your question, I also want you to read through all of your classmates' questions. Ask yourself: Besides my own observations, how are my classmates making connections between their constructs and their majors and/or personal interests? How are their questions different/similar to mine? What can I do to make my research question the best one possible?
Finally, after you've read through each question carefully, respond to AT LEAST one of the questions that most interests you. Be respectful, first and foremost; then, let your classmate know what you liked about their research question, what they can do to improve their question, and how their question is similar/different to your own.
DEADLINE: please have YOUR question posted NO LATER than 10pm on Thursday, October 2. ALL responses to questions should be posted by 10pm on Saturday, October 4th, no exceptions.

DeleteIs being wrong something you should be afraid of?
ReplyDeleteGabriela Longoria
I like your question because it relates to my major. I cant make a mistake because a person can be hurt so being wrong is something i can be afraid of. Erik Flores
DeleteHow do UTPA students deal with error? What types of errors do UTPA students fear the most? Which ones do they fear less?
DeleteShould an Electrical Engineer's future be defined by their past and background? Mario Rios
ReplyDeleteI like this question because to me its an opened ended question...it has many answers. Sometimes your past and your background can be your motivation.
DeleteThis is a good question because it gives you a good idea of the do's and don'ts of electrical engineering. It is very useful to those that are going in this field of study.
DeleteWhat do UTPA Electrical Engineering majors perceive as the 'perfect' Elec engineering student? What skills should this 'perfect' student possess, and how can they be obtained/developed?
DeleteHow is a student's mind impacted by timed-exams?
ReplyDeleteSamantha Morales
I like your question because it's very relatable to many students, myself included. This being because many students struggle under the pressure of having to complete the test within only a certain amount of time. This also relates to my question as well because they both ask about how being under pressure affects your ability to deal with a task. You can interview students to see how they feel towards standardize testing.
DeleteSamantha Hinojosa
What do UTPA students think about timed exams? Do they like/dislike them? Why do they like/dislike timed exams? What exams do they like most? Which do they like least?
DeleteHow does English revision change from high school to college? Does it help students write better ?
ReplyDeleteKeith Uribe
Before I forget, make sure to read Sommers' article which deals with revision. It's on our blog.
DeleteOkay, your question: What do UTPA students think about revision? How/why is this important/unimportant to UTPA students? Why should UTPA students develop revision (or as Sommers' states, re-vision) skills in college?
How would a students' peculiar study habits help or hurt them in the nursing program?
ReplyDeleteBianca Gomez
I like you question, because it's good one. I too am trying to apply to the nursing program and it's a tough program to follow. But it's true, will someone's certain study pattern help not inhibit their way of study and how can you make it better?
DeleteHow do UTPA Nursing students study? Are these study skills effective/ineffective? How/why is it important for UTPA Nursing students to develop study skills in college?
DeleteHow do you become an active listener and block out distractions?
ReplyDeleteCarlos Flores
I like your question because it would be nice to know how to become an active listener and i myself have trouble blocking out distractions. To make this question better you can say what are some ideas that students used to become active listeners, and ways they blocked out distractions. This question is similar to mine in the way that an Electrical Engineer has to be a very good active listener if he wants a bright future.
DeleteHow do UTPA students deal with distractions outside/inside of school? What distractions are the worst? What should UTPA students do to overcome these distractions and succeed in school?
DeleteWill my different study methods help not just the students in the nursing program?

Similar to Bianca above. Work together?

Is your health worth risking by stressing over procrastination?
ReplyDeleteArturo Rodriguez
I like that you are focusing on the negative of procrastination just as all society does, but not everyone know the health effect is has on an individual. You should maybe interview a specific doctor for your research paper.
DeleteWhat effect does procrastination have on UTPA students? Does it affect them physically, psychologically, etc.? What should UTPA students do to overcome this particular obstacle?
DeleteWhat strategies are needed for a professional in Criminal Justice to succeed?
ReplyDeleteRuben Villanueva
I like this question because it's somewhat linked to mine when it comes to strategies and since I'm planning in getting a career involved with criminal justice it can be very insightful read. You may want to consider being specific on whether it's reading, writing, analyzing strategies, or all three, that you are going to talk about.
DeleteWhat are the most important skills required to succeed in CJ? Are UTPA CJ majors developing these skills? If so, what are these skills? If not, what should these students do to develop these skills and succeed in their careers?
DeleteIn Accounting, is it possible that procrastination will hurt me later on?
ReplyDeleteI like your question because it somewhat relates to mine about English, although English & Accounting may differ. Try to be more specific on procrastination, are you talking about studying for the lecture? Doing the homework? Or the job itself? Open up the question not only to yourself but to other students that are pursing the same degree to get more research.
DeleteHow/why do UTPA Accounting majors procrastinate? How does this behavior affect these particular majors? What should these individuals do in order to overcome this obstacle?
DeleteHow will having an open mind help me in the profession of Political Science?
ReplyDeleteLeonardo Llanas
I like your question because I feel that you should have an open mind about things when your study political science. But that's not always the case. People are more likely set in there ways by the time they're in college, at least about all things political.
DeleteLet's push this further: How important is critical thinking to UTPA Poli Sci majors? What are their perceptions of critical thinking and it's importance in this field? What steps should these majors take to develop this skill and succeed in college?
DeleteIn what particular ways would you say procrastination has affected your ability to do your job in the nursing field, would you consider procrastination good or bad in this field?
ReplyDeleteSamantha L. Hinojosa
That's a very good question. Is procrastination good for you, or is procrastination a certain strategy that you use to apply to your work. Do you work better under pressure?
DeleteSee Bianca, Anthony above. Work together?
DeleteHere's how I see your ?: How do UTPA Nursing majors perceive procrastination? Do they see it as a positive/negative behavior? If positive, why do they think so? If negative, what should these students do in order to overcome this obstacle and succeed?
How does being wrong affect your area of study? Would there be repercussions if you were wrong?
ReplyDeleteTatiana Montemayor
DeleteI liked your post because I believe it speaks to something bigger than making a minor error. Rather, your question speaks of the error's effect on ones future and life. In my field of study, Bio Pre-med, there is little room for making mistakes. One minute 'mistake' could be a patients cause of death, a life that you 'killed'. This post relates to my question, is being wrong something you should be afraid of, because one should not be afraid of making mistakes. If doctors were afraid to do their job because of the possible consequences, then how would anyone get better? The term surgery would have a completely different feeling behind it if doctors were eery about the performance about to be made. A way of making this post a better question, I would change the specification on 'area of study' to in life. I believe it would make your post more insightful.
DeleteGabriela Longoria
See Gabi above. Work together?
DeleteHere's how I see your ?: How/why do UTPA students study? Are they doing it right/wrong? If right, what strategies are they using to succeed? If wrong, what should they do to develop better study skills?
Will procrastination help me in my future career?
ReplyDeleteFrank Moreno
You have an interesting question because it gives procrastination the possibility of being a good thing, maybe it does have benefits for certain students. But I think you should be a little more specific when you say "future career", develop on how exactly it could help as well in order to give us the big picture of procrastination in your discipline.
DeleteInteresting take on procrastination.
DeleteHere's your question re-envisioned: Could procrastination be a 'good' thing at UTPA? What do UTPA students think about procrastination? Do any of them see it as a positive behavior? If so, how/why do they believe it is helping them in school?
How does procrastination effect your career in management? Do you meet the deadlines?
ReplyDeleteStephanie Moreno
I like your question because at some point it applies to everyone. Procrastination is usually one of the biggest factors in lack of career management. However, maybe you can try to be a little more specific in your question. For example maybe you can restate it by asking: How does procrastination affect your effectiveness in your "area of study". Maybe you don't necessarily need to ask about deadlines.
DeleteWhat is the impact of procrastination on Management majors at UTPA? How do these majors perceive procrastination? Is it a good/bad type of behavior? If good, what are its advantages? If bad, what should these students do to overcome this obstacle and succeed in college?
Deletehow can an individual remember important information from class taken years ago?
